Plant Heroes
Editorial Policy
How Plant Heroes researches, writes, reviews and updates its articles, and how we keep our content independent from advertising.
Last updated:
Our goal is simple: to give gardeners, growers and nature lovers clear, accurate and genuinely useful answers. This policy explains how Plant Heroes chooses topics, creates and reviews content, keeps it up to date and stays independent from advertising.
Our mission
Plant Heroes grew out of stories about people who protect and revive threatened plant species. We carry that spirit into every article: helping readers understand plants, soil, food and the environment well enough to make good decisions in their own gardens and communities.
How we choose topics
We focus on the real questions people ask — about growing, caring for, harvesting and protecting plants, and about the environment they depend on. Topics come from reader questions, seasonal gardening needs, common problems and developments in plant science and conservation.
Research and sources
Our content is based on well-established horticultural, agricultural and scientific knowledge. When researching, we prioritise:
- university and agricultural extension services;
- botanical gardens, herbaria and conservation organisations;
- government agencies responsible for agriculture, environment and food safety;
- peer-reviewed research and recognised reference works.
We avoid presenting opinions as facts. Where gardeners’ experience differs or the evidence is mixed, we say so.
Writing standards
- Answer first. Each article starts with a direct answer, followed by explanation, steps and practical tips.
- Plain language. We explain technical terms and avoid unnecessary jargon.
- Safety. We highlight risks around chemicals, tools, toxic plants, food storage and wildlife, and recommend professional help where appropriate.
- Regional awareness. Climate, soil and regulations vary. We note when advice depends on your region or growing zone.
Use of technology
We use software tools — including AI-assisted research and drafting tools — to help us cover a wide range of questions efficiently. Tools never replace editorial judgement: our team sets the topics and standards, reviews content for accuracy, clarity and safety, and corrects or updates articles when issues are found.
Corrections and updates
We aim to be accurate, but mistakes can happen and knowledge evolves. If you spot an error, please email [email protected] with the article link. We review every report and, when a correction is needed, update the article promptly. Significant updates are reflected in the “Updated” date shown on the article.
Independence and advertising
Plant Heroes is free to read and is supported by advertising, including Google AdSense. Advertisers have no influence over our editorial decisions, and ads are always clearly separated from editorial content. We do not accept payment for favourable coverage, and we do not publish sponsored content disguised as independent articles.
Health, food and safety topics
Some articles touch on health, nutrition, herbal plants or food preservation. This content is for general education only and is not a substitute for advice from a qualified professional. Please read our Disclaimer for more information.
